HRH Queen Elizabeth’s Platinum Jubilee

As you are no doubt aware, Soulbury Parish will be celebrating this historic event on 2nd June and 5th June. We have a very enthusiastic committee, called the Jubilee Dream Team, organising these events headed up by Scott Issacs. The plans so far, as of 1 April, are:

On 2 June 2022 from 6:30 pm we will being erecting a marquee on the village green so we can party the night away.  In line with the national beacon lighting, the beacon will be lit around 9:45 pm.  We are delighted that Sir Nicholas Bonsor will be lighting the beacon for us. We have applied to close the road from the Dean Farm Lane end to the Stewkley Road junction just to ensure the safety of everyone from 6:00pm to midnight.  There will be music, cash bar and free barbeque.  Several people have offered their help with this event as the marquee needs to be erected, equipment to cook on and serve from, chairs/tables/bar all need to be got to the area so please offer your support and join the camarderie of the event to help to make it really ‘swing’ (as we used to say in my day!!) The event is anticipated to close around 11:00 pm.

On 5 June, 2022, 1-6:00 pm there is to be a fun day, Picnic in the Park style, at the Soulbury Millennium Green.  Activities, raffle, music and the judging of Soulbury’s own Jubilee Pudding competition for both children and adults: children being given the opportunity to make either a Jubilee pudding or cake and the adults just producing a pudding.  The judging will take place in the VIP lounge.  The VIP lounge is especially for the not-so-young in the village who might get onto the ground for a picnic but probably won’t get up again (and, yes, I put myself in that bracket).  To this end we need to know how many of the ‘not-so-young’, ie 65s and over, would like to come to this event.  It is, therefore, essential you contact the Jubilee Dream Team on 01525 611070 or email on soulburyjubilee@gmail.com to let them know you want to be there.  They need to make sure they have enough tea and cake, don’t they and, after all, they are not mind readers.  Of course, inevitably, lots of help will be needed during the morning to prepare for this event as well. We have booked two musical acts, first act at 2:45 pm being Richard Stark who entertained us brilliantly at a Soulfest event several years ago, the second being Karen and Gemma at 4:00 pm who have entertained us at many a Soulfest event.

Finally, the Parish Council will be giving our mementos to the children in the parish. However, plenty of these have been bought so anyone can buy them for themselves, friends and family.
