Children’s Play Area Upgrade

A lot of hardwork took place behind the scenes to enable the Parish Council to upgrade the children’s playground at the top of Mount Pleasant. s106 monies, accrued as a result of housing developments within the village, was used for the project. The Council first obtained a lease for 25 years from Buckinghamshire Council. This is a requirement to obtain any grants. This process actually took too long but the team behind the project battled on and obtained the lease. During this time quotations were received from three providers of equipment. Kompan won the bidding process. An access route for the less-abled in the community was installed, again by Kompan, paid for by a grant from FCC Environment who are one of the UK’s leading waste and resource management companies.

Finally, the space opened on 12 June 2022, not without a huge effort on the part of many to tidy up the whole area of vegetation, overgrown grass and a huge amount of ivy. The whole area looked lovely and there was a huge turnout for the event. Apart from children scrambling over all the new equipment, the older generation had a go on the swings and slide as well. A tug-o’-war was organised – ladies against the men of all ages from 3 upward. Not sure who won but it doesn’t matter – it’s the taking part that counted.

The Leighton Buzzard Observer and MK Citizen both covered the event – getting a front page picture in the MK Citizen! We are on the map, folks!!
